Woks World

hmm. Meetings and irc means wok do no work. Most of my jobs at the moment require me to get a few good hours run at them. Which I'm not getting today. So I'm doing some little stuff and packing up the office.

Got my bond back so I can go shopping now for stuff. And get the car serviced too. and stuff.

I am on tearoom duty next week at work. Basically it means i have to clean up each day and provide afternoon tea on Friday. I'll just bash out a few cakes and a slice. and stuff.

YAY. But more about that later.

Last week was sooo busy at work. But all good stuff so thats ok. Lots of little jobs to do, and lots of annoying salespersons to deal with. And stupid delivery drivers.

1) Sales persons: I work for a small to medium organisation so we get a lot of faxes and emails relating to people who want to sell us stuff. By far, the most obnoxious and annoying are the printer-toner-and-ink people. I get around 2-3 calls a week from different companies wanting to contract with us for the supplies. Which is stupid coz we spend maybe a grand a month tops. So not worth it. Our current supplier has good pricing (not THE cheapest but good) and they give excellent service so I am happy to stay with them. But these other companies keep bugging me. ARGH!

2) Deliver drivers: Ok so maybe it's not the drivers themselves but the communication chain. For example, deliveries from Dell Computers go Dell (Malaysia) --> BAX (Malaysia to Melb) --> Airroad (Depot to us). We had some big orders recently and needed to get the drivers to take the stuff to a different storeroom, not at goods recieving. So we tell the supplier to get the driver to come to reception so we can escort them there. The supplier sez (no probs). However, the drivers rock up at goods recieving (and unload on the foothpath no less) before I can even get outside from my office. Their run-sheet has no mention of coming to reception. argh. This has happened 4 times now. We went to the effort of ringing AirRoad and telling them specfically (no probs they say) and still nothing. The last delivery, I went out and told the infra guys not to let the damn trucks in the gate. That worked.

3) Three weeks (15 days) till we move to the new building. I have SOOOO much work to do. argh. My back hurts from lugging all these computers around (but thats coz I'm super unfit).

Anyways, on Friday (I was super busy) got called into the Corporate Services Manager's office (my boss's boss == boss^2) and my boss was already in there ("Oh shit" thinks I), to have a chat. To make a not very long story short, they have decided to offer me a 3 year contract as an employee (I am a contractor at the moment). So I am like "Yay". Still, it depends on the wage. Coz I already get paid more than the 1 year old contracted employees. Still, money is tight (with all my expenses). I am hoping to talk them into at least 37 grand (which may not sound like a lot to you) but that is like more than the 3 year old people get, and a 15% rise compared to what I get now. I reckon they'll only offer 34 ish. The going rate is from 30-45 grand and I do a lot more than my job description. Maybe if I spin some shit about taking on additional responsibility I can squeeze some more dollars out of them. It's not like I'm over worked (busy enough tho) and I have never refused to do an extra job. A 37 grand wage would put me back to where I was when I was living with Alan and splitting the bills and stuff (in terms of whats left over each month).

hmmm

Nothing...

Well, stuff at work so I'll torque about that.

Teh boss (who has his finger in many pies) sez that he's close to retiring if this (...) plan works out (i don't even think he's 30 yet but hey - ace) so he needs to make sure that I am capable of doing his job. It's GREAT to think that he thinks that I could handle it (with training). Coz at the moment I'm not particularly working hard, just constantly. Heh.

Anyway, I might do a diploma relating to business if it looks like I'm a contender. Coz I know the systems back to front, it's just my business sense that needs developing. I hate, for example, forcing suppliers to get us better pricing. bleh.

It is, however, a great place to work. You may think a cemetery would be morbid, but for my role, in infrastructure it's great. The staff are all ACE and the conditions are perfect. Plus having an office in super-maintained parklands (with the occasional memorial or headstone lolf) is great, especially in the warmer monfs.

Anyway, my contract is up in December so we'll need to look at it at the end of september. So I'm putting in more into the new building project to show that I am useful. Coz my current role will be dimished once we move coz the systems are more self-maintaining, if yer know what i mean.

Meh, I need a wagerise too. Ppl keep telling me that 5% is about normal but I know I am still paid below industry rates so I'm gonna push (but not too hard) for more than that. Especially when I do so much more than IT support.

In other news, I am catching up on my bills, but now I have a frickin tax bill of $600. So I can't spend anything till I have that much clear. Bugger. It's the stupid HECS and Medicare levy that are doing it. Which sucks coz I pay for full private health insurance. And don't really use it. Anyway, I'm doing alright, just don't have any spare money at the moment.
